Before I get to March 28 . . .
Friday, March 20 we went to the K Palace Theater in Huachuca City for a production of Death on the Nile. We were able to get a couple beers and popcorn and had a table by our seats. The production was a little more amateurish than the Sierra Vista Community Theater, but it was fun and I am glad we went.
We did a lot of shopping and thrifting on Saturday, March 21. We got clothes, kitchen items, an original watercolor, and after looking at a lot of thrift stores, I finially scored some great records for $1 each.
Sunday, March 22 we made a Costco run to Tucson. After shopping, we went to lunch at Brooklyn Beer & Burgers. I was surprised to see they had Hop Slam on tap. And, just by coincidence, I was wearing my Hop Slam t-shirt.
The morning of Saturday, March 28, we assembled some new furniture for the office and completed our protest signs. The we went to Len Roberts Park to see what was happening there. They were ready for an Easter egg hunt and there were a few vendors. Karla got a walking taco and I got a chili dog, but we didn’t stay long.
From there we went to Veteran’s park. There was a group of people at a pavilion and we hung out for a bit. We walked to Fry and joined the No Kings rally. There was a big crowd of at least 1,000 people on both sides of the street. It felt good to be with like-minded people. We received more honks and waves of support than rude gestures.
After the rally, we went to Guadalajara SV for some food. We sat at the bar and it took a little while. They started with fresh salsa made in front of us. That was good. I got a skillet enchilada and it was a little disappointing. We took home some leftovers.
Later that afternoon we drove to Bisbee and found a parking place close to the Jonquil Motel. Behind the hotel the Pedal Power Fest had started and Melissa Reaves was getting ready to play. We got some drinks and found a place to sit. She is not really our style but it was a nice day to be outside listening to music.
When Melissa was done, we walked around a little and then went back to the stage and stood for the The Exbats. They are a lot of fun and it was a good set including a rare cover of the Ramones’ Bonzo Goes to Bitburg.
When they were done, we went back to the truck and drove to old town Bisbee. It took a moment to find a place to park but we found a spot in the lot behind the Bisbee Table.
We walked to the gulch and when we went by Gene’s Place, Bear Down Bear was playing. So we went in. They were done with their set, but played one more song. It may have been because of us or some other people who walked in. They did a song about the bad traffic in Tucson. When they were done we said hi and they remembered us from Sidepony.
From Gene’s we went to the Room 4 Bar. It is the smallest bar in Arizona and it was full with 4 people. We waited a bit and talked to the people in the bar. Then we got some drinks and went to the patio. We were early so we got some seats and waited. Smooth Hands showed up and got set up. A good size crowd showed up and Smooth Hands played a fun set. Their drummer for the the night was not their usual drummer so their set was a little short. But after a long day it was a good length for me.
We headed back to Sierra Vista and called it a night.
