Ankeny Liberty Tulsa

After a quick hotel breakfast in Ankeny, we packed up and continued south. We stopped for some gas just south of Des Moines, and continued to Liberty Missouri, a northern suburb of Kansas City. We stopped at 3 Halves Brewing for some lunch and a beer. Karla had the tasty lunch special tacos with smoked pulled pork, and I had the brisket dip with a side salad. It was also tasty, but way too much food for lunch.

We continued South and only made one stop on the four and a half hour drive to Tulsa. We listened to some podcasts, including Nobody Listens to Paula Poundstone, and that made the time go fast.

We checked into our hotel in downtown Tulsa and got settled. From the hotel we walked 15 minutes to Greenwood Rising.

Greenwood Rising is an incredible museum and memorial to Black Wall Street and the massacre that took place there in 1921. I am glad we were able to visit and learn about what happened, but it is heartbreaking to see what people can do to other people.

After the museum, we were ready for something to eat. A couple blocks away was HEFF Brewing. When we got there, we were the only customers, and for a couple minutes, we didn’t even see any employees. All of their beers are gluten free and not too bad. We looked at the food menu but decided just to get some French fries and accompanying cheese dip. The fries and cheeses were pretty good.

A block away from NEFF was New Story Brewing. We walked over there and ordered some beer at the bar. I really enjoyed their New Zealand IPA. We found a spot in their outside space and the ordered some Barria tacos. Good beer and good tacos. What more could we ask for?

During our walk back to the hotel, we stopped to read about the blue dome. It was right next to Arnie’s Bar so we stopped in for a bump. Awesome old dive bar with lots of memorabilia on the walls. We were surprised to see that smoking was allowed.

It was a short walk back to the hotel, and before long we were in bed.
