Monday, February 16 we made the easy drive to the San Pedro House. The San Pedro House is a restored ranch house, now a gift shop and book store, in the middle of the San Pedro Riparian National Conservation Area. Around the San Pedro House are many miles of hiking trails along the river and through the surrounding grasslands. The San Pedro river creates a unique landscape providing water for cottonwood and willow trees that do not appear in the surrounding desert-like landscape. It is winter so a lot of the environment is gray, but it is still an interesting place to hike. There was some water in the creek, and a few pools behind downed trees. We hiked along the river and back through a field covering just under 2.5 miles. We will have come again when the spring plants begin to bloom.
