February 8, 2026 Mineral City

Before I start on Feb 8, I want to mention our day on Feb 1. We ran around Sierra Vista in the morning and looked at options for a fireplace mantel at our place. We didn’t find what we want and may work on it this summer in Minnesota. We picked up some rocks that we used for landscaping and headed to Bisbee. We found a place to park and went to the Old Bisbee Brewing. We got some drinks and went to the patio. Our friend Alex Wilkerson was already playing and he gave us a nod when we walked in. We hung out, had another round, and stayed until the end of his set. It was a fun performance with our favorite Alex songs and a cover of Cortez the Killer. We talked with Alex when he was done and bought a record and CD.

Sunday, February 8 we first drove to Vail, AZ. We met a couple at a storage place and bought a bar cart that I had found on marketplace. At the time I wasn’t sure it was what we wanted, but it has turned out nice. From there we drove to the Habistore in Tucson. We looked at a lot of stuff and bought three terracotta jugs that we use for decorations. It was about lunch time and I was hungry and close by was Brother John’s Beer Bourbon & BBQ. They had a good tap list and some good BBQ. I got the St. Louis ribs and a house-made Texas style hot link. Karla got the smoked chicken flautas. It was a very satisfying lunch.

From the BBQ place it wasn’t far to Mineral City Tucson is known for mineral and gem shows. There is a big one at the convention center every year. But we go to Mineral City because that is where my cousin’s husband has a mineral shop, Investments From Earth. I parked on the wrong end of the building so we walked through and looked at a few mineral and gem shops. We got to Jack’s shop and it was great to see him. We talked for a while and caught up and Jack told a few stories. My cousin Kelly was at lunch when we got there, but we hung out long enough for Kelly to show up. Jack left for lunch and we talked with Kelly. After a good conversation, we said goodbye and made promises to get together this summer.

We looked for other stuff to do and we decided on another thrift store, Injoy. It was on the other side of town, but there were not a lot of other options on a Sunday. The thrift store was nothing special but we managed to find a couple things. Nearby was the only brewery in Tucson that we had not been to. Black Rock Brewers had some decent beers. We tried a few beers and got a sticker.

From there we went to Costco. We stocked up on a lot of stuff and headed back to Cactus Point. That evening we watched some Gopher basketball and the Super Bowl. I went to bed after the halftime show.
