We started our Saturday by going to The Bit for breakfast. It was busy and after a little wait, we got a booth. We put in our order and had a long wait for our food. Karla got her omelet and they brought me the wrong food. They brought a second plate that was wrong and got it right the third time. My chicken chilaquiles were delicious. Karla’s omelet was just ok. It needed more cheese or sauce or something. It is a nice diner with good food. Not sure how often we will go back.

After breakfast we did a little shopping around town including Michaels and the Hidden Treasures Antique Mall.

We made a quick stop at Cactus Point to change and make a bathroom break. We had just enough time to drive to Fairbank. We were right on time for the tour. It was a lot longer tour then I expected. Just about two hours. It could have been shorter, but our guide talked real slow and I think they walk slow for older people.

But it was really interesting. Lots of information about Fairbank. It is now a ghost town, but it was once an important railroad stop for Tombstone and had a population of 15,000!. We ended our tour at the Fairbank Cemetery outside of town.

Rather than go straight back, we did some more hiking. We headed north and stopped at the ruins of the Grand Central Mill. During the Tombstone silver boom, this stamp mill operated 24 hours a day, processing the ore brought in from Tombstone by wagons.

We hiked back and went through the old school that is now a little museum.

On our way back we stopped at Buddy’s Bar in Whetstone. They have a sign out front that says “Coldest Beer in Whetstone”. (It has to be true because it is the only bar in Whetstone.) It was not busy and we sat at the bar. We had a couple beers and played some TouchTunes.

We headed back to Sierra Vista and stopped at the Bone Dry Tap House to check out the pizza and bingo. The pizza kitchen wasn’t open so we didn’t stay. Without anything else on our agenda, we decided to go to our favorite Tombstone Brewing West End. We sat at the bar and enjoyed some delicious food and beer.

Another good day in southern Arizona.
