Sierra Vista Part 2

Since my last post, we have spent a lot of time and energy on getting settled into our new house. We got the keys on Tuesday, April 15. We met Frankie at our new place (Cactus Point). He had got Karla a bottle of wine and got me a 4 pack of hazy IPA. Also, his husband Chad is an artist and made us custom cards with a painting of our house on the front. I am still amazed by them.

Karla has found some great deals on furniture in the area. We have done a lot of shopping a thrift stores, garage sales, craft fairs, consignment stores and more.

We went back to Bone Dry Tap House for music bingo a few more times. We tried several types of pizza including one with a green chili sauces that was pretty good. We both got bingo a couple times that equals a free beer. Also Karla got a blackout she she gets a dollar off every beer for a year.

We went back to the High Heat Sports Grill for trivia on Friday evenings. We usually did pretty good but it wasn’t until our second to last time there that we finished in the money. We took second and won a $25 gift card. Our last time at High Heat trivia, we took third and won two drink tickets.

We went to Bisbee for the Mile High Music Fest and Burnerella. They had live music and vendors behind the Jonquil Hotel. A lot of people were dressed up for the Alice in Wonderland theme, along with other costumes and old hippies. We got drinks and found a place to sit while enjoying the rock music of Worlds Clyde and the old-timey tunes of Juniper Djinn. After Worlds Clyde, an unscheduled woman played a few acoustic songs, as she was the daughter of one of the sponsors. We greeted Mike Montoya as he prepared for his set, and he welcomed us back. His band Fatigo BZB performed next, which was enjoyable. Karla bought a fun headdress from a vendor and got some burritos from a food truck. We didn’t pay much attention to the Moonlight Beach Club. I went to get my jacket and a blanket for Karla as the sun set and it got colder. A fire was started nearby to keep us warm. The last band was the Lolly Bombs. The sound wasn’t that great and they were kind of boring. So we didn’t stay for their whole set. We knew 20 Foot Neon Jesus was playing at the Bisbee Royal, so we checked it out. Main street was busy, but we found nearby parking. Inside, only about 10 people were watching 20 Foot Neon Jesus, which made me feel a bit bad, but there was a lot happening that night. We stayed for a while and heard around 5 or 6 songs; he is funny but can get a bit repetitive. We called it a night and headed back to our rental in Sierra Vista.

The next day, Sunday, April 20, we moved the rest of our stuff from the rental to our new home. We had already moved some stuff so there was a lot of space in the truck. Once we had unpacked and put stuff away, we drove back to Bisbee for another day of the Mile High Fest and Burnarella. A few minutes after we got there Alex Wilkerson and his band started. It was a fun set and we talked to him afterwards. We hung out and listened to Steve Moramarco and then Tapestries. We got a bowl of jambalaya from the food truck to share. Last was Melissa Reaves. Another fun day in Bisbee. We headed back to Sierra Vista.

Saturday, April 26 we drove to Tucson. We picked up some chairs Karla had bought online. They look nice and a good deal for $100. We also stopped at Goodwill, Costco and the 22nd St Antique Mall. For lunch we went to Taquería La Esquina. We got some queso fundidto and tacos. Everything was delicious.

The evening of the 26th we went out in Sierra Vista. We had dinner at TakoMaki. The food was creative and tasted good. We just felt there could have been more shrimp in the stuffed peppers and more meat in the baked roll. The churros and ice cream desert was delicious.
After dinner we went to Events 161 for the Edgar Allen Poe Speakeasy. I thought it would be a small place with only a few people. But when we got there, there was a line of 50 to 100 people waiting. We got in line and after a few minutes they opened the door. It only took a few minutes to get inside. We were greeted with the first drink of the night. It was open seating but it was easy to get a couple chairs. Once everyone was settled, one of the actors got up an introduced the night. He said there were 150 people there. I lot more than I expected but I was glad there were that many people in Sierra Vista who were interested in something like this and willing to buy the tickets. The first actor got up and did a performance of the Tell Tale Heart. We got another round of drinks and the first actor came back to perform the Black Cat. A third drink and a third actor performed The Raven. She changed it a little and it was about her daughter. One more drink and the actor who did the Tell Tale Heard did the Red Mask. The drinks were ok but nothing special. It may have been better to have a smaller, stronger taste, than the full watered down drinks. I am glad we went and it was fun evening in Sierra Vista.

We went to Native Grill & Wings a couple times for their trivia night. It is hosted by the same guy who does trivia on Fridays at High Heat. However, this trivia is Family Feud style. So it is not really trivia, but guessing how 100 people would finish a phrase or what word goes with a given word. There are a lot of teams, and if you even miss a couple, you are out of the money. The first night we won a $10 gift certificate in a second chance drawing. The second night we did really good, but did not win anything.

We stopped by the Huachuca Art Association Gallery & Art Center. There were three people there who either worked there or had stuff on display. We talked with them for a bit and looked around. I thought about buying some art, but did not. We talked a little more about membership and open studio times. We will have to look into it in the fall.

We went back to Tell Mama for another vinyl night. When Karla showed the DJ our Alex Wilkerson record she was excited. She said she knew Alex and he had played at Tell Mama.

Our friends Paula and Ro came for a visit. After a delicious, late lunch at Tombstone Brewing West End, we did some shopping and checked out the gem show at the mall. We went back to our place for some beer tasting and snacks.
The next morning we went for a hike at the Presidio Santa Cruz Terrenateand. The ruins were interesting, but we followed an AllTrails rout that took us along an old train bed we could have skipped.

We said goodbye to Paula and Ro and Karla and I stopped Buddy’s Bar for a bump before returning home.

We went to Bisbee for dinner with Frankie and his husband Chad at Thuy’s. It was great to see them and they said they will check on our place while we are in Minnesota for the summer.

We went back to Bisbee one more time for Around at Poco. This was a free music event with Alex Wilkerson, Amellia Doll and Carolyn Toronto. The each took a turn with a song and I think they went around five times. It was a beautiful evening and Frankie joined us on the patio.

We just need to pack up and close up Cactus Point. We start the road to Pine Point on Monday. I will try to post some updates from the road.

I have added more pictures to the Sierra Vista Flickr album:
