Phoenix 2025 – Part 2

Mike and Mary came and visited for a few days. Our first night we went to Tesota for delicious dinner and drinks.

Our second day with Mike and Mary we went to the Fry Bread House for lunch. The fry bread tacos were very big and messy and we had to use forks to eat them. But I am glad we experienced it and I thought the food was really good.
It was a rainy day so we spent the afternoon at the Heard Museum. It it is a huge museum with a fantastic collection of indigenous art and artifacts. We covered just about everything and were there until it closed at 4:00.

That evening Karla and Mary made supper at our place. We had Salmon, Brussels sprouts and sweet potatoes. Everything turned out very nice. After supper we watched the Royal Tenenbaums.

Our third day with Mary & Mike started with a trip to the Uptown Farmer’s Market. It is a big farmer’s market and we looked at almost everything. I got some really hot salsa and Karla got some chocolate.
For brunch we went to Flower Child. It was a little healthier than fry bread tacos and just as good.
From there we went to the Japanese Friendship Garden. It it was a nice day and we walked around the garden and took a lot of pictures.
After the garden, I suggested a brewery. Mike drove to Roses By the Stairs and got a rock star parking spot. We hung out on their patio and had some tasty beer.
We went back to the Airbnb and reset. After a short rest, we went out on foot to Don Wood’s Say When. We got a table and everyone got a cocktail and we got some Brie for the table. We were hungry so we left Don Wood’s and walked to looked for food. We went into Federal Pizza but the wait was too long. We went next door to Joyride Tacos and got a table right away. We filled up on a nice selection of tacos and drinks.
From Joyride we took an Uber to Chopper John’s for some live music. It wasn’t too busy and a loud band was playing. We got some beers and found a table in the back. The band we wanted to see, Carol Pacey and the Honey Shakers were next. When Carol started we moved up by the stage and listened to the music. It was a fun show and it was good to see them again. When they were done we talked with Carol and Andy for a while. There was one more band, but we did not stick around. We took an Uber back to the Airbnb and called it a night.

For our last day with Mike and Mary, we went to brunch at Fàme Caffe. We got there right before a big rush of customers. So we got a table right away and our food did not take too long. Everything was delicious including the fresh squeezed orange juice.
After we walked back to the Aibnb, Mike and Mary packed up and left to spend a few more weeks wandering around Arizona.

Karla and I went for a walk to check out Dynamite Beer Co. They had recently opened and have a really good beer list. We also enjoyed the candied bacon and almonds.

Our last weekend in Phoenix started on Friday afternoon with a walk to another neighborhood in Uptown. We stopped at Culinary Dropout for drinks and appetizers. We got the happy hour specials wagyu pigs in a blanket and pretzel bites and cheese. The pretzels were more like pretzel buns and the cheese came with a little pan with a candle under it to keep the cheese warm. Really good. The pigs in a blanket were also good with an excellent mustard cream sauce. We walked around the neighborhood a little more but didn’t go too far before we saw Randy’s Donuts. We took some pictures and got some donuts. It was cold and drizzly so we took an Uber back to our Airbnb. That evening we walked to Federal Pizza. It was a busy Friday night so there was a little wait for a table. We got some drinks and requested a half and half pizza of flaming lips and manifesto. Pretty good pizza. The server gave us a free banana puddling for desert. Very nice. We finished the pudding and walked back to the Airbnb.

Our last full day in Phoenix started with packing and cleaning. That afternoon we met Lauren and Walker at Wren House Brewing. They were in town for spring training and I am glad we were able to get together for a couple beers.

Karla and I made a stop at PHX Beer Co. I am glad I was able to check out another brewery, but their beer was just average. We made one more stop at The Beach House. It was a place I had heard about and it looks pretty cool. We got some tacos and took them back to the rental. The tacos were very full but not as good as other tacos we have had.

We are now in Sierra Vista and there is a lot going on. I hope to have another update soon.
