Paula & Ro had a commitment with some other friends so they were up early Sunday morning and headed home. Karla made avocado toast for breakfast that was very good. We walked down to the Bisbee Grand. It was not too busy and we got some seats in a good spot. We both got Bloody Mary’s and we split a beer. It was not too crowded yet, but by the time we left, it was pretty full.
20 ft. Neon Jesus started a little after 10am. He started off with a sermon. Pretty funny. I liked the part where he said the devil tempted JC and said he should turn the rock into bread. JC said I am not going to do that, and if I was, I would turn it into tacos. After the sermon he did some songs. Most of the songs we had heard the other night, but he also did Goddamn That Ghost is Holy that we had not heard before. We stayed until a little after 11:00. He was still going and started on some Christmas songs. Not sure how much longer he went, but some of it is kind of the same old schtick.
We walked down main street and could hear music coming from the Bisbee Coffee Co. We stood around for a few minutes and listened to a little of King Summer. There were not a lot of places to sit and we kept moving. We looked around a bit but there was not a lot going on. We went to the Copper Queen and we walked in just as Ellie Fern & the Evergreen played their last note. It was about 11:40. We went back to the gulch and I suggested the Old Bisbee Brewery, as something was starting there at noon. The door was not open yet and there was a big line waiting to get in. So we kept walking and went to Bitchin’ Pickins. We looked around but didn’t buy anything. When we were done, the brewery was open and there wasn’t a line. We went in and there were only two people at the bar. We sat down and got a couple beers. We could hear the music outside. First there was a long sound check and then the music was kind of quiet. I through it would be more danceable. So we just sat at the bar and talked with the employees.
When we finished our beers we went across the street to St. Elmo for Fat Grey Cat. They had already started and there was a good crowd. We got some seats in the back. It looked like they were set up for an MTV Unplugged session. But the lead singer was energetic and they played a fun, short set.
We were getting hungry and it was about time for lunch, so we walked down main street and went into the Le Cornucopia Café. They were busy but we found a table by the window. It took a while to get service but we were not in a hurry. I got a double IPA from Tombstone that was really good and a meatloaf sandwich that was delicious. Karla got a club sandwich that was also tasty.
By the time we were done it was just after 2:00. Carol and Andy were playing at the Bisbee Grand and we wanted to see that. When we got there, Carol and Andy were playing and we found a place to stand. There was a good crowd and we got a shout-out from the stage.
When they were done, we went to the Bisbee Social Club for buRgandy juRk. We got some drinks and went to the music side. There were only a few people there. He was solo acoustic. I was expecting a full punk band. Some interesting songs. We stayed until the end. I think we were the only people left. We went up and talked to him for a bit and he was grateful that we stayed until the end.
It was almost 4:00 and we were both getting tired. So we went back to the rental and caught up on some football games and the Gopher basketball game that we had missed.
