August started out with another big family meal in the pole building. Thursday night was Italian night. There were a couple sauces, pasta and a lot of salads. Karla made a spaghetti squash hot dish that was great. After the meal, there was another dish washing party at our place.
I was working the morning of August 2nd, when my sister Lani let us know there was a problem with the plumbing in the pole building. Karla and I went to the pole building and found half the floor covered in water and the toilet running. It turns out the toilet was running all night and filled up the holding tank. When the holding tank was full, the water had no place else to go but back in the pole building. Karla called the septic service to have our holding tank pumped and we both worked on cleaning up the water. We got things cleaned up and the holding tank was emptied. It worked out ok, but it was a lot of extra work.
That evening was another big meal in the pole building. A few friends joined us so there was a record 32 people for dinner. It was Mexican night. Karla made some fantastic carnitas, there was ground turkey, refried beans, lots of sides and salads. We went though around 70 taco shells. After the meal, different people took some of the dishes so we did not have to do them all.
A lot of the family left on August 3. Karla and I went to the Rendezvous Brewing anniversary party. We ran into some friends and watched the end of the pickle kicking contest.
On Sunday we celebrated Mike’s birthday.
We went to Rendezvous again for Trivia on Tuesday. We had Mike, Allison, John, Karla and myself on our team. After the triple overtime last week, Fred made the questions a little harder. It was a tough night and we did not win.
For Karla’s birthday, we had some happy hour with family and then went back to our place. We grilled steaks, made asparagus and sweet potatoes. Everything turned out delicious.
We went back to Rendezvous for Trivia on the 13th. Our friends Paula and Ro joined us. We had a lot of fun, but came in second or third.
For our anniversary, we went out for dinner at The Boulders. We had a great meal. The Boulders has some of the best food around.
We had our friends Heather and Thom over for dinner. We were hoping for a pontoon ride, but the weather did not cooperate.
The weekend of the 17th, we had some good weather and went on the pontoons on both Widow and Woman lake.
For trivia on the 20th, we had enough people for two teams. My mom, Emily, Karla and I were on a team. Paula, Ro, Scott and Pam were on the other team. It was another tough night. We did ok, but the other team did not do as well.
We sold Faith in Action raffle tickets at the Bluegrass Festival outside of Pine River. It was the first night of the festival and we did not sell too many tickets.
The title of this post is Mostly August. It covers most of August, but there are a couple more events that merit their own entries. Watch this space.
