Monday, April 15. Not up too early. We got ready and went to the Drury lobby for hotel breakfast. The had biscuits and gravy so we got that. We also got sausage, potatoes and scrambled eggs. The potatoes and the biscuits were really good. Better than expected for a hotel breakfast. Got ready and packed up. On the road again. We listened to our playlist for a while and then Nobody Listens to Paula Poundstone. The episode was over two hours long and by the time it was done, we were almost to Mt. Pleasent. At one point during the drive, Google took us on a gravel road. Probably a short cut but I doubt it save us any time. In Mt. Pleasent we went to the Grange Public House and Brewery. It was after 1:00 so it is not surprising it was very quiet. I asked if we could sit at the bar and the person working there said sure, if you want to. Like, who would want to sit at the bar. But we did and got a couple beers. Good beer. We have been really lucky on this trip. Every stop so far had had good beer. Karla got an Asian salad and I got a French dip. Both were delicious. We talked with the guy behind the bar about the brewery and the art in the restaurant. That’s why we sat at the bar.

After lunch we headed north again. We made a quick stop in Riverside, IA to see the Future Birthplace of Captain Kirk. Why not? Just a stone marker, but I am glad we stopped.

We continued on to Amana, IA and checked into the Hotel Millwright. The hotel used to be part of a textile mill and had lots of old equipment decorating the public spaces. It was just before 4:00 so we walked down the Main Street in Amana. A lot of shops were already closed, but a few were still open. We went in a couple shops and bought a few things.

By 5:00 almost everything was closed. Millstream Brewing was still open so we went there. We sat at the bar and had a couple beers. I bought some beer to go and a tin tacker sign. We brought our stuff back to the hotel and dropped it off. We went out again and went to the Brau Haus. We started with some German poutine. Really good gravy. I got a beer and Karla got a local wine. I got a bratwurst (they were out of knockwurst) and Karla got a hot chicken sandwich. After supper we went back to the hotel and walked around a bit, but that was it for another fun day.
