Festus & St. Louis

Sunday, April 14. Not up too up early. We went to the Arrive lobby for breakfast. I got a ham and Gruyère pastry. Karla got yogurt and granola. The Gruyère was delicious. The yogurt was plain but the granola was really good. Karla also got a beautiful looking chai tea. We checked out and hit the road. Went across the bridge to Arkansas then north to Missouri. Drove straight through for about three and a half hours. We listened some more to our playlist and some podcasts of Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me. We stopped in Festus Missouri and went to Main & Mill Brewing. We took a couple spots at the bar. I got a hazy IPA and Karla got a raspberry wheat. Both were better than expected. Karla got a spinach strawberry salad with candied pecans that was very good. I got a spicy chicken wrap that was tasty. I also got a side salad. I also tried a light Pilsner. I looked at the merch and thought about buying a sign but I just got a sticker. I would have bought some of the hazy IPA to go but it was new and not available in cans.

We had some time so we walked down Main Street for a bit. We stopped in a couple shops but did not buy anything.

We walked back to the truck and drove to St. Louis. When we got downtown there was a lot of traffic backed up. Lots of people around. Once we got through the traffic, it was easy to get to the Drury Hotel and to check in. We also had a private parking ramp. Really nice considering a lot next door was selling event parking for $45. We brought our stuff up to the room.

From the hotel it was a short walked to City Park. A St. Louis fan welcomed us and spoke to us about the game. Easy entry to the stadium and we were right by our seats. There was still time so we walked around looking for beer. There were lots of places selling beer but it was all crappy. Then we saw a market. Looked promising. I saw a guy with a craft beer and I asked him about the options. He said this was as good as anything. Some got a couple Brewligans hazy IPAs from 2nd Shift Brewing.

We went to our seats. We were in the top row of the lower section in the corners. There were other Austin fans in our row. It was a hot day but we were in the shade. Not much happened in the first half. Some shots but no goals. At half time we walked around the stadium. I wanted a little something to eat but it was hard to decide. I got a beef samosa that was pretty good. We also got another round of beer. As we were waiting in line, St. Louis scored. We saw it on the monitors. We went back to our seats and watched the second half. Ethan never went in the match. There were no more goals. I’m glad we made it to the match, but too bad Austin didn’t win.

After the match we walked to Schafly’s. It was busy after the match but we were seated right away. It took a while to get service, but our server was very nice and a good server. We got some beers and food. Karla got a Reuben and I got wings. Good Reuben. Just average wings. I got an IPA that was good. The beer was better than what I remember from Schafley.

We talked about doing something else but there were not a lot of options and I was tired. We walked back and walked around Union Station . It is a really impressive building. We walked around and under the old train shed there is a koi pond, restaurants and amusement park.

Koi

We looked at stuff but didn’t do anything. We walked back to the hotel. We looked around the hotel but nothing was happening there. We went up to the room and called it a night.
