Week four started with another trip to Ocean Springs. They were having the annual Feed the Need benefit concert and fish fry at the Government Street Grocery. Karla and I were there early and I got a free poster and put it in the truck. I thought about getting a t-shirt but I wasn’t sure so I waited. We got some beer and wandered around. There was a raffle and a silent auction. A lot of the prizes were gift cards or services from local businesses so we did not enter or bid. We found some chairs and listened a little to the first band, Biloxi Bacon. It was hot in the sun so when Biloxi Bacon was done, we moved back to some shade. The next band was Ryan Blathrop so we went back by the stage. This time we had some chairs in the shade. We listened a little but them moved back to the tent. Before too long Sean, Rebecca, Kreg & Emily showed up. We said hi and everyone got beer and fish. Part of the ticket was a serving of food. It included fried fish, fried shrimp, hush puppies, bread and a cookie. The fish and shrimp was really good. I thought it would be greasy or heavy, but it was light and crispy. We found a table and ate and talked. We ended up sitting there for almost five hours. We talked about mutual friends, music, travel, food and beer. We took turns getting drinks and day went by fast. I went back to buy a t-shirt, but they were sold out. Occasionally we would talk about what was happening on stage, but didn’t really pay attention. The last performer was Cary Hudson and we all moved closer to listen. Before we knew it, the day was over. Sean, Rebecca, Kreg and Emily left. Karla and I were hungry so we walked to Murkey Waters BBQ. We may have been the only customers there. I got a brisket sandwich and Karla got a burger. Karla’s burger was good. My brisket had good flavor but it was very dry. We finished up and headed back to our rental in Gulfport. It was a fun day and I am glad we finially got to hang out with our friends.
After work on Monday we went to Chandulear Brewing for trivia. This time we got the last question right and we got 3rd place. We won a can koozie.
Tuesday we went to Coastal Daiquiri trivia. We did pretty good but missed the last question. Even missing the last question, we took fourth place. There was no prize. If we would have got the last question right, we would have took first place. We still had fun and said goodbye to Tony and thanked him for all the trivia.
Friday was a busy work day. We went to lunch at the Downtown Bistro. We were the only customers and we thought that was a bad sign. We starter with some boudin eggrolls. They were ok and had a good Cajun mustard. Karla had chicken avocado wrap and I had a Cuban sandwich. They were good but nothing special. Back at our rental we did some packing and I did a little more work. After work we went for a walk. It was a beautiful day and even getting a little hot. So we stopped into Trax to cool off and have a beer. We walked back and did some more packing.
That is it for Gulfport. We enjoyed our time here. It was fun exploring the area and everyone was really nice. Maybe we will be back some day.
