Gulfport Week 3

On Sunday of week three, we had scheduled a trip to Ship Island. Before we left, Karla started some chicken in the crockpot. We packed a backpack with some snacks and supplies. It was a short drive to the port and we waited around a bit before boarding the boat. Pretty uneventful ride to the island. We were hoping to see some dolphins. Karla aught a glimpse right at the end but that was about it. We went on Ship Island and walked to Ft. Massachusetts.

I guess there was no tour because it was Easter. We walked around and looked at the fort. It was Interesting and had some placards about some of the guns. A few more informational placards would have been better. From there we walked to the other side of the island. Most of the people who were on the boat with us went straight across and sat on the beach. We stopped at the snack bar and I got a beer. We sat at a picnic table and had some snacks. From there we went for a walked on the beach. The sand was weird. A lot of it was black and felt like mud. We walked a long way along the beach. We could see some people a long, long way in front of us but we never caught up and did not see any other people. We found a little bay with white sand, although it was packed hard, and we stopped for a bit. We sat and relaxed and had some snacks.

We walked back and went to the snack bar. I got another beer and Karla got a White Claw. We played some cards and had some more snacks. Back to the boat and a ride back to Gulfport. We headed back to our rental. We made tacos with the chicken Karla had made in the crock pot. Really good stuff.

Monday we went back to Chendeuler and played trivia. Not our best night but it was fun.

Wednesday, after a busy day at work, we went for a walk around the neighborhood. We walked for a while and then went to the Dreamer’s Lounge. It was dark inside and there were a few people around the bar. It was Smokey inside. Another bar where you could still smoke inside. We took a couple spots at the bar. No beer on tap. I asked for a Yeungling. Karla got a vodka soda. We finished our drinks and decided to move on. The bartender opened me another beer but I said we were ready to go. She tried to put the top back on. Our bill was only $6.50. We walked down the road and went to Trax Bar and Grill. There were a lot of cars in the parking lot and it was busy inside, but there were a couple spots at the bar. There was no smoking in this bar and it was brighter inside. And beer on tap. I got a Dr. Juice and Karla got a vodka and soda. They also had TouchTunes so we played a bunch of songs. We also ordered some boudin eggrolls that were not too bad. We got another round. This time I got a Ghost in the Machine. We finished up and walked back to the rental. We made some tachos. Tater tots with taco chicken that Karla made the other day. And cheese and jalapeños. They were delicious.

Friday evening we had reservations for Patio 44. We went a little early and had a drink at the bar. We were seated for dinner and started with some excellent blue crab fondu. Karla had a filet and I had red fish on the half shell. Both were really good.

On Saturday I made omelets in the morning. I took Karla for a pedicure and I ran some errands. When I picked up Karla, we checked out Tossed & Found and Goodwill. Some interesting stuff at Tossed & Found and Karla bought a dress. Nothing interesting at Goodwill. For lunch we went to the Cypress Taproom. Both Fort Bayou Brewing and Craft Advisory Brewing are at that location. We tried a few samples and I got a Hoppy McHopFace from Craft Advisory. We started with some crabcakes that had a tasty remoulade. Karla had a quesadilla and I got a shrimp poboy. The quesadilla was good and looked like it was on a homemade tortilla. The poboy was really good and had a similar remoulade.

After lunch we went to Banana’s Mini Golf. It was busy and we had to wait for the people in front of us. But it was a fun course and Karla beat me by one stroke.  We went to a few places and picked up some supplies and went back to the rental. We relaxed and watched basketball and soccer.

We hit the road tomorrow. Maybe I will have an entry about our fourth week before we go.
