SRB pt. 2

Our remaining time in Santa Rosa Beach went fast. Here are a few notes about some of the things we did.

  • We drove to Panama City Beach to the Craft Bar to play trivia. It was really busy but we found a couple spots at the bar. We ordered dinks and burgers. Burgers were pretty good. Trivia started and it was a little loud. We did ok. As usual, there were a couple questions that we had the correct answer, but turned in something else. At the end, we bet a lot on the final question and got it right. We had a good score, but did not finish in the money.
  • We went back to Palm Folly to play trivia three more times.
    • The first time it was just Karla and I and we didn’t do too good.
    • The second time Bob, Lisa, Kevin, Emily, Marcus, David, and Taryn all showed up. We had so many people we made two teams. Our team with Bob, Lisa and Taryn did really good and took second and won a $15 gift card.
    • The third time it was Karla, Lisa, Emily, Taryn and myself. We did pretty good but did not get a gift card. I think we were tied for third
  • We walked to Café 30A and had a great dinner with Kevin and Emily. Karla got a filet and I got some fish on a crawdad etouffee. The food was very good but not the best ever.
  • Karla and I went to the Local Cantina for lunch. It was not busy and we sat at the bar. We got some tacos and drinks. The double taco with a soft shell and guacamole around a crunchy shell with carnitas was really good. I had a classic taco with barbacoa but the shell was like cardboard. Karla got some good tacos and we also had chips and guacamole. Overall it was a really good lunch.
  • We went to Grayton Beer Company. They have been around for a long time but we had never been there. We tried some samples, got a couple pints, sat at the bar, and talked with other customers. I see a lot of their beer around town but most of it is boring. It was good to see some other options at the brewery. We found some good stuff. I checked out the merchandise and bought a can koozie. I also got a crowler of the Pool Daze Deep End double IPA to go.
  • We went back to Modica Market three more times to see the Steenos play. There was always a good crowd and we always found a place to sit. Sometimes there were guest musicians. It was always a fun time.
    • One of the nights after Modica, I got some ribs from Barefoot BBQ and took them back to our rental. It was late and I was really hungry, but they were really good ribs.
    • Another night after Modica, we stopped a Cafe 30A. We got some spots at the bar and ordered some fancy martinis. Good stuff. We also got a crab cake that was really good. Maybe a little expensive, but really good.
  • We went over to Kevin & Emily’s and hung out with everyone. There were lots of appitizers, including Karla’s homemade roasted garlic hummus, Kevin grilled steaks, and there were several jam sessions. A really fun evening.
  • We went back to Stinkey’s Fish Camp. It was not too busy and we took a couple spots at the bar. It took us a while to order but I eventually ordered a Bloody Mary. Karla got eggs benedict and I got shrimp and grits. The food was delicious. Soon after we ordered, Kevin, Emily, Marcus, Harry and David showed up. They got a big table right next to us. When everyone was done eating, we closed our tab and joined them at their table. Marcus went up and he and David played Hurt. Then Marcus joined his grandparents for a song or two. It was awesome to see everyone play together for the guests at Stinkey’s.
  • We went to the Grayton Beach area a couple more times. We drove to the parking lot and took the shuttle.
    • The first time we went to the Red Bar, had some drinks and listened at to Ken & Andi.
    • We walked on the beach but the sunny day was turning cloudy and we did not stay long.
    • We went to Chiringo, had some drinks, listened to some music and hung out with Kevin & Emily. Taryn, Lisa & Bob also joined us for a bit.
    • The second time we went to the Red Bar, friends of Emily, The Saunders Brothers, were playing.  Some good bluegrass and I liked it. We got a booth with Emily and Kevin. We ordered some drinks and food and talked and listened to music. My fish and chips was good. Karla’s salad was just ok.
  • We went to the Eden Gardens State Park and the Wesley House with Emily. We tried to go to the house first and we found out the tours were on the hour and it was ten after eleven. So we walked around a bit. Some awesome live oaks and lots of flowers. We went back to the house and sat on the porch until it was time for the next tour. The tour was interesting. Lots of nice antiques. I thought it would be dated 70s stuff but it was really nice.
  • We had lunch at Macho Taco. We started with some burnt ends nacho cheese and chips that was fabulous. I had brisket enchiladas that were also good.
  • We watched Frogs. It is a B horror film that was filmed at the Wesley House. A little entertaining, but mostly just bad.
  • We walked to the Perfect Pig. We sat at the bar and had some drinks and food. Karla had a  smoked bacon wrapped chicken salad that was delicious and I had a fig jam flat bread with caramelized onions, gruyere, prosciutto, arugula and parmesan that was outstanding.
  • We went for a hike in the Port Washington State Forest.
  • Kevin & Emily drove us to the Rosemary Beach area. Everything was busy but we found some room at the Havana Beach Bar at The Pearl. They have a nice outside patio and we had some drinks and some smoked tuna dip.

In my last entry, I also mentioned the Minnesota Golden Gophers basketball team. They did not make the NCAA tournament, but they did make it to the NIT. It is nice to have at least one more game.

So much stuff and so much fun. I had to keep telling myself that I was not on vacation.
