Friday, March 31 we checked out Pioneertown. We had a beer at the Red Dog Saloon, checked out the building and shops, had had dinner at Pappy & Harriet’s. We talked about going back to Joshua Tree to do some stargazing, but it was overcast so we headed back to Palm Desert. Also, John & Anna’s flight back to Minnesota was cancelled so John, Anna, Caden and Carter stayed with us for two more nights.
On Saturday John, Anna, Caden & Carter hung out at our place by the pool while Karla and I went on a road trip around the Salton Sea. Our first stop was at the North Shore Beach & Yacht Club. It is now a community center and it was not open. But we got out and walked down to the water. We went to the Ski Inn for lunch. There are not a lot of options for lunch so we waited an hour for our food. After lunch we drove on the beach and got out to look at some of the public art. We then drove to Salvation Mountain and got out and checked it out. From there we went to East Jesus. We spent some time there looking at the sculpture. Most of it looks like found object art and is really interesting. We made a quick stop at Dot’s to check out her place and buy a sticker. We drove around Slab City but did not make any other stops. After Slab City, we went to the Sonny Bono Salton Sea National Wildlife Refuge. We hiked the short trail to Rock Hill. We saw a few birds but that was about it. Time to start heading back. We made one more stop at Johnson’s Landing. We stayed long enough to have a beer and watch the end of the San Diego State/FAU game. Back in Palm Desert John & Anna made us supper of salmon and salad. Later everyone got in the hot tub one more time before calling it a day.
Sunday was a nice and relaxing day. After John & Anna left, we went to Tuscano’s & BrewQuinta. I was disappointed that they do not brew on location. They couldn’t even tell me where their “house” beer is brewed. Oh well. I will find another brewery.
