Echo Canyon

This past Saturday we went on a hike in Echo Canyon in the Chiricahua National Monument. One of the coolest hikes we have been on. We went through some awesome rock formations. It is up in the mountains and there was some ice and snow on the trail in a few places. We did 3.25 miles in just under two hours.

After our hike we stopped for some food and a beer at the Chuck Wagon. The only bar and grill in the area.

On the way back we made one more stop at the Whitewater Draw Wildlife Area. I thought it was the wrong season, but our neighbor said we should check it out. I am glad we did. There were a lot of sandhill cranes and hundreds of yellow-headed blackbirds. We were there right at sunset and it was an amazing sight to see.

That would have been enough for one day, but we went back to the rental, cleaned up, and went out in Bisbee. Our first stop was Room 4. Big Al and the Shit Kickers were playing on the patio. We got some drinks and hung on the patio for a while. They were fun and played some covers, some originals and read a little cowboy poetry. From there we went to the Bisbee Grand for the Resonant Rogues. They are a duo from North Carolina. He payed guitar and she played banjo or accordion. We listened for a while but didn’t make it to the end.

It was an incredible day. We headed back to the rental and we were soon asleep.

Sunday was a little slower but after a great homemade egg bake breakfast, we went to the Quarry. The March Divide was playing solo acoustic. A nice combination of originals and covers. We then went to Kafka for a little more Resonant Rogues. It was a beautiful afternoon so we sat on our patio for a while. I did a little painting. Later in the afternoon we went to St Elmo for some more live music. There was a duo and a solo performer. We like the duo better. We didn’t get any of their names.

Just a couple more days in Bisbee.
