In the morning we went to Cahokia. We hiked to the top of Monks Mound and were amazed at the size and the view from the top. It is amazing to imagine what it was like at this location 1,000 years ago. It is a place I have wanted to visit for a a long time. Even though it was a little chilly, I am happy we made the stop.
From Cahokia we drove to Hannibal, Missouri. We took the River Route and it was interesting to see some of the countryside rather than just the interstate. Our first stop in Hannibal was the Mark Twain Brewery. We had a good lunch and a couple tasty beers. We got a bomber of the barlywine to go. We went to the Mark Twain boyhood home and museum. There was a lot of interesting history and buildings. We also walked up more steps to visit the Mark Twain memorial lighthouse.
From Hannibal, we drove to Cedar Rapids. We checked into our hotel and went to Lion Bridge Brewing. We enjoyed some really good food and some delicious beer. We got a couple 4 packs to go. We were in Czech Village so we walked around for a bit. It was small but interesting. We headed back to our hotel and there was another brewery on the way. Third Base Brewery was more of a sports bar. But we sampled some beer and hung out for a bit.
Minneapolis tomorrow! I am excited.
