Went to the International Museum of Art & Science in McAllen, TX. The first exhibit we looked at was a photography exhibit about bees. It was very informative and had awesome photography. Then we looked at a Mexican and Latin American folk art exhibit. Lots of cool, interesting, creative items. Then an exhibit by Max Vityk. 9 massive paintings inspired by the Arab Spring. Powerful, inspiring, interesting paintings.
For lunch we went to Brewsome. We sat at a picnic table out back and tasted some beer. The jalapeño pear gose was good as was the DIPA. We also got some beer cheese dip that was very good. Nice and creamy. I got the taco truck burger with refried beans, guacamole, bacon and cheese. Good but messy. Karla got the el jefe burger on lettuce. Also good but she had to eat it with a knife and fork. They filled my growlers and I bought another bottle to go.
After lunch we went to Quinta Mazatlan. We walked the trails around the property first. Not very long but lots of interesting things to see. They had about 50 sculptures along the path. We also saw birds and lots of interesting plants. We went inside and explored the house.
As long as we were in the area, I wanted to check out one more brewery. It was just a few minutes away in Mission TX. 5×5 Brewing looked like it was in a shopping center. The parking lot was blocked off and they had a bunch of food trucks. The brewery was small and there were a lot of picnic tables spread across the parking lot. I got a swartzbier and Karla got a peanut butter banana hefeweizen. The hefeweizen had a good banana flavor, but not much peanut butter. There was a cover band playing. They had a cello. I went to the food truck and asked if they had ribs ready. The person at the counter said sure in 2 minutes. So I paid for them, then the guy behind the counter, who was doing the cooking, said it would be 10 minutes. So they gave me a beeper and I went back to our table. I had one more beer. When my beeper went off, I went back to the food truck and they said the ribs were not ready. Not even close. So they gave me my money back. Darn, I had my heart set on ribs.
